Our entirely estate grown, red Rhône-style proprietary blend of Syrah, co-fermented with a dash (5%) of our Viognier to enhance its intriguing floral tones, is one of Fortunati’s most acclaimed wines. VINTO Syrah has earned its name due to its consistent record of receiving national awards, accolades and top ratings. The 2014 vintage was particularly favorable for VINTO; our vineyards enjoyed a mild growing season followed by an exceptionally early harvest, and our location within Oak Knoll District’s cooler micro-climate is ideal for bringing out the best in Syrah.

This wine’s dark ruby color is impressive, with compelling aromas of plum, cola and cracked black pepper immediately asserting themselves.  The addition of a small amount of Viognier co-fermented with Syrah elevates the aromatics towards the spicy side. Concentrated and intense, this jammy, fruit-driven wine is held within a framework of moderately tight tannins.  As with our other red wines, VINTO becomes more full-bodied once it has been exposed to air in a decanter or in the glass. The spicy mid-palate fruit shifts to higher tones and suggests red raspberries, cherries and figs. An intriguing stony minerality also emerges, carried by the wine’s bright acid through to the long finish. Between its immediate approachability and its firm grip of enveloping tannins, we’re confident that our VINTO Syrah blend will continue its winning streak with Fortunati fans!

Tasting Notes
"The 2014 Syrah Estate Vinto Syrah Rhone Blend is a California version of a Côte-Rôtie, given the fact that it was co-fermented with 5% Viognier and the balance is 95% Syrah. The aromatics offer up notes of apricot, white flowers, lychee and loads of cassis and black cherry. Some bacon fat and lard appear on the palate and the wine is rich and luscious. This is a killer value as well, and I think a major sleeper of this vintage since anything from France with this degree of complexity is going to cost you at least 2-3 times the price. Unfortunately, only 200 cases were made. This is a wine to drink now as well as over the next decade."-Robert M. Parker, Jr. The Wine Advocate, Issue 228. Dec. 30, 2016
